Ford has officially announced that plans for rear wheel drive Ford and Lincoln sedans have been shelved.
Ford design chief J Mays told Automotive News on Sunday, "It's out of the cycle plan."
"We've got other priorities at the moment," Mays said. "We're going down a path right now that is all about fuel efficiency, and we've got a lot to do about that. So we're not talking about rear-wheel drive."
A year ago Ford announced plans to work with Ford's Australian arm to develop a new, large RWD platform that would yield sedans in the US. The first sedans were expected by 2013.
